Position Summary:

The Prevention Counselor will deliver clinical services to clients engaged in the child welfare system, focusing on Traditional preventive, Kinship preventive, and Refugee preventive programs through the Solution Based Casework Model. This role involves ongoing collaboration with the Erie County Department of Social Services, prioritizing child safety, permanency, and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold the mission, vision, and guiding principles of Catholic Charities
  • Engage with clients to accurately assess their service needs
  • Create treatment plans for individuals, families, or groups based on thorough assessments
  • Identify problem areas with precise diagnoses and clarify the counselor's role in the treatment process
  • Make suitable referrals and ensure follow-up
  • Proactively advocate for clients when necessary
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with community resources for effective service delivery
  • Identify and develop additional resources as required
  • Participate in community initiatives related to agency objectives
  • Contribute to special agency committees
  • Meet the quantitative performance expectations set by the agency
  • Utilize Case Management databases to document service units
  • Employ the Connections system for maintaining client records
  • Work closely with the Department of Social Services to ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in social work, mental health counseling, or a related field, with a Master's Degree preferred.


Experience and Skills:

  • Experience working with children and families, particularly those involved with the child welfare system
  • Demonstrated commitment to sensitivity, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong interviewing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, demonstrating effective organizational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in various computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel) and electronic database systems

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass required background checks
  • Willingness to travel as needed, with reliable transportation and appropriate insurance coverage
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours to meet client needs
