About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Survey Party Chief to join our team at Bowman Consulting Group. As a key member of our land surveying team, you will be responsible for leading and directing survey field crews, ensuring the highest level of quality and accuracy in our work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction
    • Provide day-to-day supervision of assigned survey field crew, ensuring they have the necessary training and resources to perform their duties effectively.
    • Coordinate with contractors to provide survey services, ensuring seamless execution and high-quality results.
    • Identify controls for property lines and make informed decisions regarding survey methodology.
    • Gather all necessary information to conduct surveys efficiently and assign tasks to crew members.
    • Communicate with clients to discuss work progress and ensure their needs are met.
    • Maintain accurate records and perform calculations essential to survey work.
    • Ensure the assigned survey truck is properly maintained and all equipment is inventoried and up-to-date.
    • Communicate with management to optimize efforts and maximize man-hours.

    Requirements
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.
    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Minimum of three years relevant experience working on a land surveying party.
    • Prior Party Chief experience a plus.
    • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of construction stakeout procedures and practices.
    • Familiar with field procedures for performing boundary and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys.
    • Ability to perform all aspects of data collected field fun topographic surveys, road frontage cross-section surveys, and as-built surveys.
    • Through knowledge of total station, GPS, and data collection, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies.
    • Ability to work outside in all seasons.
    • Ability to travel and work out of town.
    • Must hold a valid state driver's license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.
    Physical Demands and Working Environment
    • Primarily outdoor work environment, which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
    • Mobility around a job/construction site, including walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling, and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.
    • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
    • Occasional indoor professional office environment, which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
    • Mobility around an office environment.
    • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
