Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic plays a crucial role in the upkeep and repair of our fleet machinery. This includes, but is not limited to, wheel loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, man lifts, and grinders. The mechanic is expected to uphold responsible work practices, prioritizing safety above all. Responsibilities include conducting preventive maintenance and necessary repairs to ensure equipment operates efficiently on a daily basis.

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, service, and part replacements effectively.
  • Possess and utilize personal tools for repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Familiarity with computer tracking software is beneficial.
  • Ensure a clean and organized work environment.
  • Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Identify issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar, Komatsu, and John Deere systems is advantageous.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team setting.
  • Maintain a clean driving record.
  • This is a full-time position with opportunities for overtime.

Qualifications and Skills

  • ASE certifications are preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Capable of repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Experience driving a manual transmission truck is required.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are necessary.
  • Previous experience with CDL truck driving is a plus.
  • Experience in the waste industry is beneficial.
  • Completion of vocational or technical training is required.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations is mandatory.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Work is performed under moderate supervision.
  • Physical ability to lift weights up to 50-75 pounds, along with pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • A valid Driver's license is required.
  • A valid CDL driver's license is a plus.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
