Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic plays a crucial role in the upkeep and repair of our fleet machinery. This includes, but is not limited to, wheel loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, man lifts, and grinders. The mechanic is expected to uphold responsible work practices, prioritizing safety above all. Responsibilities include conducting preventive maintenance and performing necessary repairs to ensure equipment operates efficiently on a daily basis.

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, service tasks, and part replacements.
  • Possess personal tools necessary for the job.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Utilize or learn to use computer tracking software effectively.
  • Ensure a tidy and organized work environment.
  • Interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Identify issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of parts and systems from manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, and John Deere.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team setting.
  • Maintain a clean driving record.
  • Work full-time with opportunities for overtime.

Qualifications and Skills

  • ASE certifications are advantageous.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Capable of repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Experience driving trucks with manual transmissions.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Previous experience driving a CDL truck is preferred.
  • Experience in the waste industry is a plus.
  • Completion of vocational or technical training is beneficial.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations is essential.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Work under moderate supervision.
  • Lift up to 50-75 pounds, with frequent pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • A valid Driver's license is required.
  • A valid CDL license is a plus.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
