Substitute Lunchroom/Playground Monitor

The South Kitsap School District is seeking a Substitute Lunchroom/Playground Monitor to provide supervision of students in common areas of the school, including the playground and lunchroom. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about working with children and creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a healthcare professional for the purpose of meeting immediate healthcare needs;
- Attend meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions;
- Facilitate activities among students for the purpose of providing direction in playground interactions and age-appropriate activities;
- Maintain equipment and work area for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, providing a safe learning environment, and/or meeting mandated requirements;
- Monitor individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. playground, lunchroom, etc.) for the purpose of resolving conflict to provide a safe and positive learning environment;
- Participate in meetings and conferences (e.g. with parents, staff, and students, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information and helping resolve issues;
- Provide support to students for the purpose of resolving minor conflicts;
- Reinforce expectations for student behavior for the purpose of in common areas of the school;
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel;
- Respond to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Ability to work with diverse groups of students and staff;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to maintain a safe and healthy work environment;
- Ability to follow instructions and take direction from supervisors;
- Ability to work with students of varying ages and abilities;
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
Working Conditions
The Substitute Lunchroom/Playground Monitor will work in a school setting, providing supervision of students in common areas of the school. The work environment will be fast-paced and dynamic, with a focus on creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. The Substitute Lunchroom/Playground Monitor will be required to work independently and as part of a team, and will be expected to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
