Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histologic Technologist I or II to join our team at Firelands Regional Medical Center. As a Histologic Technologist, you will play a critical role in preparing tissue samples for examination by pathologists, ensuring accurate diagnoses and effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receives and processes patient fluids, performing procedures as required.
  • Contacts and consults with personnel when difficulties are encountered in testing.
  • Prepares tissues for examination by pathologists, including logging specimens and labeling cassettes.
  • Collects specimens from surgery and physician offices, and assists pathologists in examining tissue for grossing and frozen section pieces.
  • Embeds tissues, positions them in cassettes, and cuts tissue blocks for evaluation by pathologists.
  • Performs special stains and immunohistochemistry, and distributes slides to pathologists.
  • Conducts frozen sections for pathologists, including freezing, cutting, and staining.
  • Maintains quality control, records workload, and submits timely requisitions for supplies.
  • Stays up-to-date with current histology trends, practices, and procedures through review of job-related publications and in-service education.
Requirements
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; Associate's Degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a histology lab or current on-the-job training in histology required.
  • HT/HTL (ASCP) certification preferred, or eligible to sit for the exam.
  • CPR/BLS certification preferred.
  • Ability to be mobile, exhibit dexterity, and differentiate colors.
  • Basic computer literacy and valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license required.
