Position Overview

The Aquatic Care Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations and project activities within the quarantine and holding facilities of the organization. Reporting to the Associate Curator, this position is responsible for ensuring that all animal care practices meet established protocols while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare.

This is a full-time role that offers a comprehensive benefits package. The standard working hours are Sunday to Thursday, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. The position is primarily based on-site, with occasional requirements to work at different facilities as needed. Flexibility in work hours is essential, as the role may occasionally require weekend, holiday, or early morning/late-night coverage.

Key Leadership Responsibilities
  1. Oversee and manage the daily activities of the aquatic care team to ensure optimal animal care and operational efficiency.
  2. Provide mentorship and training to both new and existing staff on best practices in animal husbandry and operational procedures.
  3. Facilitate communication within the team and with other departments to ensure effective collaboration.
  4. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to team members.
  5. Assist in the recruitment process for new staff members.
  6. Promote a culture of teamwork and support among all staff members.
Core Responsibilities
  1. Direct the daily operations of the aquatic care team, including quarantine and enrichment programs.
  2. Assess exhibit conditions and recommend necessary improvements.
  3. Develop and implement animal care protocols and standard operating procedures.
  4. Manage inventory and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  5. Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations.
  6. Participate in record-keeping and budget management activities.
  7. Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards across all activities.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Open Water SCUBA certification is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of life support systems and animal care protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving and independent working skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Commitment to the priorities of the Animal Care Division.
