Position Overview

The Electrical Design Engineer will play a crucial role within the organization. This individual must demonstrate strong teamwork abilities, collaborating effectively with clients, colleagues, and project partners to create precise engineering documentation and drawings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough analysis of electrical systems, including primary and backup power systems, illumination systems, and fire alarm systems.
  • Prepare comprehensive construction documents for power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems.
  • Collaborate with both in-house and external specialists to provide electrical support for various low-voltage systems, including technology, security, and control systems.
  • Engage with other disciplines, such as architects and mechanical engineers, to address equipment power and control requirements, ensuring proper sizing of electrical distribution.
  • Execute design calculations to determine electrical loads for appropriate distribution equipment selection.
  • Create one-line diagrams for electrical systems.
  • Perform field verification of existing systems for renovation initiatives.
  • Draft and revise specifications to align with project needs.
  • Communicate with manufacturers to identify solutions for specific applications.
  • Prepare design deliverables for various owner-required submissions, including SD, DD, and CD level documents.
  • Oversee project construction administration, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, preparing bulletins, evaluating contractor change orders, and conducting field visits for installation verification.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and regulatory authorities as project requirements dictate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Energy Systems.
  • Proficient in design and analysis software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Easypower.
  • Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), State Energy Code, NFPA guidelines, and FGI standards.
  • Experience in conducting electrical system studies, including short circuit analysis, over-current device coordination, and Arc Flash Hazard analysis per NFPA 70E.
  • Strong knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to collaborate with contractors to resolve construction challenges.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in designing for Healthcare, Commercial, Public Sector, Education, and/or Institutional projects.
  • PE or EIT certification is preferred.
