Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Procurement Specialist to join our team at INW Capstone Nutrition. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day purchasing activities, ensuring timely delivery of materials, compliance with specifications, and containment of costs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Senior Buyer to ensure all purchasing activities are aligned with company goals.
  • Review MRP exception messages and prepare detailed replenishment dispatches to mitigate part shortages.
  • Initiate quotations with suppliers, providing specifications, quantities, and delivery needs.
  • Obtain supplier confirmation of compliance with specifications, delivery schedule, price, and terms.
  • Prepare and obtain approval for purchase orders according to established signature authority levels.
  • Place purchase orders and obtain written supplier acknowledgement of all purchasing terms with prescribed deadlines.
  • Monitor outstanding purchase orders and ensure suppliers meet scheduled delivery commitments.
  • Communicate confirmed deliveries and exceptions for outstanding purchases to internal customers.
  • Resolve receiving discrepancies and communicate disposition with the Accounting Department to ensure proper credits/debits are initiated.
  • Manage freight claims to ensure timely filing and disposition with third-party logistics services or directly with carriers as dictated by service contracts.
  • Coordinate the return or disposal of rejected materials, ensuring the Accounting Department is notified of all cost-related events.
  • Provide monthly reporting for measuring goal attainment as directed.
  • Perform periodic updates of vendor lead times, minimum purchases, cost changes, and other variables that constrain material replenishment planning and execution.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of purchasing experience; applicable commodity experience will be given preference.
  • Completion of Karrass Effective Negotiating training within 90 days of employment or prior.
  • Class attendance/training and passing the test for APICS Supply Chain Basics.
  • Career experience demonstrating attainment of goals and effectiveness in problem-solving.
  • Intermediate understanding of purchase law, terms, and conditions.
  • Understanding of industry current good manufacturing practice requirements.
  • Demonstrated comprehension and experience with ERP systems, preferably JD Edwards.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, operations, or a technical field, or relevant and applicable purchasing work experience.

Working Conditions:

The Materials Procurement Specialist will regularly be required to stand, use hands or fingers to handle or feel, or reach. May be required to walk and stoop, kneel, or crouch, talk or hear, sit, or climb. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Subject to moderate noise levels and high noise levels where hearing protection may be required. Subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes from machines, odor, powders, dust, and other particles.
