As a Patient Care Support Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering patient-centered services in a clinical or administrative environment. Your duties will encompass a variety of clerical and administrative tasks related to patient care delivery, including welcoming and checking in patients, managing phone communications, collecting co-pays and insurance payments, processing documentation, and executing other front office responsibilities in a dynamic, customer-focused clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage directly with patients and their families, either in person or via phone, to facilitate the registration process by gathering demographic information, health details, and confirming insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Employ computer systems to input, access, or verify patient data in real-time, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all information.
  • Collect necessary clinical information and manage referrals, pre-certifications, pre-determinations, and authorizations in accordance with insurance plan protocols.
  • Confirm insurance coverage and benefits, generating cost estimates and conducting reverifications as necessary.
  • Collect patient co-pays as required and engage in discussions regarding patients' financial responsibilities.
  • Identify outstanding balances from previous visits and make efforts to collect any due amounts.
  • Gather data from patients and referring providers to confirm and schedule appointments for services prior to hospital discharge.
  • Address inquiries from patients and caregivers regarding routine and sensitive matters with compassion and respect.
  • Generate, review, and analyze patient data reports, following up on any issues or discrepancies as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of specific registration requirements across various departments, including Main Admitting, OP Registration, ED Registration, Maternity, and Rehabilitation units.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher).
  • 1+ years of experience in a hospital, office, customer service, or phone support role.
  • Ability to work full-time, including flexibility for occasional overtime based on business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in a Hospital Patient Registration Department, Physician office, or any medical setting.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Understanding of insurance policies and procedures.
  • Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial transactions.
  • Experience in requesting and processing financial payments.
Soft Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
