Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented and versatile Lead Technical Artist (Environment) who possesses a deep enthusiasm for game development, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to enhancing processes and workflows. This individual will serve as a vital link between the artistic and technological aspects of our projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on leadership, including task scoping, prioritization, and delegation.
- Mentor and guide tech artists of varying experience levels within the team.
- Conduct constructive reviews and offer feedback to foster professional growth among team members.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Design, and Art teams to devise practical and effective solutions for creating high-quality game environments.
- Act as the primary stakeholder for the discipline, while also contributing individually to prototype, implement, and adopt new features that align with both technical specifications and artistic vision.
- Assist in level creation within the engine and direct the team in developing tools and automation to enhance production efficiency.
- Troubleshoot content authoring challenges faced by artists and establish safeguards within the pipeline to reduce future issues.
- Research and integrate new engine features into the production workflow as they become available.
- Ensure the team produces clear, maintainable code that adheres to established coding standards.
- Create and maintain comprehensive tools and workflow documentation.
- Maintain effective communication with production teams, providing timely updates on task progress and any unforeseen issues that may affect scheduling.
- Identify and address game performance challenges and assist in optimizing art content.
Qualifications:
- Required: Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in game development as an environment technical artist or pipeline technical director.
- Required: Expertise in Unreal Engine, both as a power user and developer (Blueprint & C++), particularly in world building and level design.
- Required: Strong proficiency in Python, especially in tools and UI development (e.g., PyQt).
- Required: Experience in runtime profiling and optimization, with a solid understanding of resource efficiency best practices.
- Required: In-depth knowledge of asset creation workflows across various DCC tools (Maya, Blender, Substance, Houdini, ZBrush, etc.).
- Preferred: Experience shipping at least one title using Unreal Engine.
- Preferred: Previous leadership or management experience.
- Preferred: Familiarity with photogrammetry and scanned assets.
- Bonus: Experience in shader writing.

Compensation for this role will be determined based on various factors, including industry standards, experience, and specific skills relevant to the position. The estimated salary range for this role is between $158,000 and $213,000.
