Job Title: School Nurse

Join our team as a School Nurse at Hanover County Public Schools. As a key member of our school community, you will play a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of our students.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate School Nurse to provide medical care and support to our students. The successful candidate will have a strong background in nursing, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide medical care and support to students, including administering medications, performing first aid, and providing basic life support.
  • Conduct health screenings and assessments to identify potential health issues and provide referrals for further evaluation and treatment.
  • Develop and implement Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs) for students with medical conditions, including allergies and chronic illnesses.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed academically and personally.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students, including immunization records and medical histories.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians to ensure that they are informed about their child's health and any necessary medical interventions.
  • Participate in school-wide health initiatives and programs to promote healthy behaviors and prevent illness.
Requirements:
  • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Virginia.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a school setting or three years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid from a recognized provider.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff in a fast-paced school environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
