Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Engagement Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Supportive Services team, you will play a vital role in providing critical support and resources to families in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Intake and Assessment: Conduct thorough intakes with new families entering our shelter, ensuring accurate and complete data collection.
  • Resource Connection: Help families access vital resources in the community, utilizing your problem-solving skills to create effective plans for stable housing and increased family stability.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with clients, colleagues, and community partners to establish funding eligibility for new families and ensure seamless communication across departments.
  • Shelter Orientation and Support: Provide trauma-informed orientation to new families, reviewing shelter rules and available resources, and gathering essential documents for guest files.
  • Client Support and Advocacy: Assist families in applying for vital documents, provide support and training to Family Advocates and Case Management staff, and coordinate efforts to gather complete and accurate client information.
  • Crisis Management: Utilize training to effectively manage high-stress situations, collaborate with crisis clinicians, and provide direct, trauma-informed case management services to guests.
  • Promoting Best Practices: Demonstrate awareness and commitment to diverse populations, contribute to the agency's commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation, and adhere to the Housing First philosophy.
Requirements
  • Experience and Education: 1-2 years of experience working with diverse populations, preferably in an administrative or direct service role. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills, excellent writing and documentation skills, ability to work from a Trauma-Informed Care framework, and familiarity with the Housing First philosophy.
  • Physical and Equipment Requirements: Ability to lift 25 pounds, sit, stand, and walk for at least an hour at a time.
