As a Horizontal Construction Engineer in the Army National Guard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects. Your expertise in operating heavy equipment and analyzing site conditions will be essential in clearing the way for construction and ensuring the safety of your crew.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze site conditions and place grade stakes to ensure accurate leveling of earth for runways and roadbeds
  • Operate bulldozers, roadgraders, and other heavy equipment to clear and excavate areas of construction sites
  • Transport heavy construction equipment with a tractor-trailer and move heavy building materials with cranes
  • Assist in the performance of combat engineer missions and maintain and repair equipment
Requirements
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • Must meet citizenship requirements

Through your training, you will develop the skills and experience to enjoy a civilian career in basic construction methods and engineering principles, particularly as they pertain to operating heavy construction equipment. You may also earn specialized certifications that enable you to step right into a civilian construction career.
