Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Regulatory Standards Engineer to join our team at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. As a key member of our Engineering Department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement testing procedures to ensure compliance with FRA and LIRR rules and regulations.
  • Lead and manage the Engineering Department compliance program, including validating testing and ensuring timely compliance with FRA and LIRR procedures.
  • Assist with multi-discipline regulatory and industry standards involving maintenance and construction of Engineering Department assets.
  • Lead and manage multi-discipline investigative teams as directed by senior management.
  • Support 24/7 weather and extreme event policy development, planning, implementation, and execution.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Progressively responsible railroad engineering experience (approximately 8-12 years).
  • Working knowledge of engineering principles as they apply to all Engineering disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements as they apply to railroads.
  • Ability to effectively manage a variety of subordinates with diverse technical backgrounds and experience.
  • Proficient computer skills with working knowledge of various Windows applications.
  • Business administrative skills to provide written reports and spreadsheet manipulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of rail and safety incident investigation procedures and investigative interviewing.
  • Knowledge and experience with auditing and validation of data.
  • Knowledge and experience with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) control procedures.
  • Trained and knowledgeable in FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) & National Infrastructure Management System (NIMS).
