Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Manufacturing Test Engineering group. As part of the team, you will be responsible for designing and developing robust, data-centric production testing equipment for Tesla's power electronic components in various products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect automated test equipment, produce detailed CAD models, pneumatic diagrams, and verify designs using structural and thermal FEA and CFD.
  • Conceptualize equipment development and balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
  • Identify opportunities and implement performance, robustness, ease of assembly improvements.
  • Analyze system constraints and propose innovative solutions.
  • Support building, debugging, validation, and equipment duplication efforts, and fine-tune equipment for release to production.
  • Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery to ensure robustness and quality.
  • Perform on-site and off-site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT) of test equipment.

Requirements:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience as Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineer with focus in automation, machine design, robotics, and product development.
  • Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production.
  • Knowledge in solid mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, dynamics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, everyday machining, and fabrication processes.
  • Exposure to sensors, microcontrollers, robots, relays.
  • Strong teamwork skills with proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
  • Versed in SolidWorks, PDM, and Ansys, or similar CAD/CAE software.
  • Experience on student engineering teams and organizations is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience.
