Surgical Technician 3 UH: Operating Room

As a Surgical Technician 3 in our Operating Room, you will work under the guidance of the circulating registered nurse (RN) and surgeon(s). You will be responsible for embracing new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in surgical technician duties to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. You will seek clarification of duties as needed and assist with room turn-over, completing the process within goals and timeframes set by the OR Quality and Process Improvement committee. You will strictly adhere to the principles and safety practices of surgical asepsis.
You will coordinate activities with the circulating nurse and work as a team from the beginning to the end of surgery or procedure.
You will continually expand your knowledge base and embrace new knowledge related to surgical technician duties. You will refrain from performing duties requiring competency until competency is achieved, verified, and documented.You will assist nurse leaders and supply chain personnel to order, stock, and maintain appropriate stock levels of Service Specific specialty supplies and implants for a minimum of two services.
You will work toward quality healthcare access for all. You will perform other duties as needed.Education and Experience:
Completion of a surgical technician course is required. Five years' experience is required.
Knowledge and Skills:
You will demonstrate substantial competencies for surgical technician duties.
You will be able to apply theoretical concepts to surgical technician duties and practice and continually expand your knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in surgical and procedural technician duties.
Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation is required. You will exhibit professional behavior and a cooperative attitude at all times. You will work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.Able to:
speak, read, and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment pertinent to position; perform technical and supportive patient care activities; read preference cards accurately; relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following policies; collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; discern temperature variances through touch; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to position.
Licensures and Certifications:
Surgical Technician certification is preferred. Certification may be provided by either AST (Association of Surgical Technologists) or NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing). Basic Life Support certification is required.
