Surgical Technician 2 UH: Operating Room

As a Surgical Technician 2, you will work under the guidance of the circulating registered nurse (RN) and surgeon(s) in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for embracing new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in surgical technician duties to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. This role requires a strong commitment to continually expanding your knowledge base and embracing new knowledge related to surgical technician duties. You will refrain from performing duties requiring competency until competency is achieved, verified, and documented. Additionally, you will continue to develop your skill set and competencies to perform additional surgeries and procedures with increased complexities. You will function effectively within multiple teams and at various surgical site locations and in assigned specialties.
You will serve as a liaison between the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and the OR to coordinate special instrumentation and equipment needs for a minimum of one service.
You will assist nurse leaders and supply chain personnel to order, stock, and maintain appropriate stock levels of Service Specific specialty supplies and implants for a minimum of one serviceEducation and Experience:
A completion of a surgical technician course is required. Two years' experience as a surgical technician is required.
Knowledge and Skills:
You will demonstrate basic competencies in surgical scrub technician duties.
You will be able to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expand your knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in surgical and procedural nursing.
Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation is required. You will exhibit professional behavior and a cooperative attitude at all times. You will work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.Able to:
speak, read, and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; discern temperature variances through touch; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position.
Licensures and Certifications:
Surgical Technician certification is preferred. Certification may be provided by either AST (Association of Surgical Technologists) or NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing). Basic Life Support certification is required.
