Reports To: Practice Owner, Practice Manager, or Pet Care Manager
Position Overview:
The Animal Care Attendant is responsible for the comprehensive care of all animals in daycare and overnight accommodations. This includes feeding, bathing, maintaining records, and ensuring the cleanliness of cages, yards, runs, and ward areas. Additionally, the attendant may be tasked with the upkeep of hospital areas.
Position Requirements:
Age Requirement: Minimum age requirement is 16 years old.
Education Requirements: High school diploma or currently pursuing one.
Typing skills are preferred.
Familiarity with computer applications such as PetExec, Word, Excel, Google Docs, and communication tools like email is desired.
Experience Requirements:
A background in animal care is advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience in customer service is beneficial but not essential.
Personal Requirements:
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can handle them even when they are stressed, ill, or in discomfort.
- Capable of working effectively in an environment with barking dogs.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays is necessary for this position.
- Physical Effort: The role involves lifting and carrying animals and food supplies (assistance will be provided for animals over 40 lbs). Extended periods of walking or standing are required, and frequent bending is necessary.
- Working Conditions: May encounter unpleasant odors, noises, and animal waste. Potential exposure to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
Performance Expectations:
- Provides compassionate care to all animals.
- Maintains professionalism and composure even under stress.
- Receives animals for admission, ensuring proper identification and recording their locations.
- Releases animals to their owners as directed, ensuring cleanliness and proper grooming prior to release.
- Communicates effectively with pet owners, providing reassurance about their pets' care.
- Follows a regular cleaning schedule for all cages, runs, wards, and related areas; changes litter boxes and food/water bowls as needed.
- Feeds animals according to the attending veterinarian's instructions and records their appetites.
- Prioritizes tasks effectively and remains productive during shifts.
- Maintains laundry for pet care, grooming, and hospital needs.
- Ensures the grounds are kept clean, including waste disposal and light maintenance of landscaping.
- Bathes and brushes animals as required.
- Collects urine and fecal samples as needed.
- Conducts facility tours, highlighting features that distinguish us from other establishments.
- Recognizes and reports any unusual conditions or behaviors.
- Assists veterinarians and nurses with medication administration and patient restraint.
- Cleans equipment and facilities using appropriate chemicals and supplies, adhering to safety protocols.
- Maintains cleanliness of the facility daily.
- Completes weekly and monthly cleaning tasks to uphold the facility's standards.
- Understands and follows both oral and written instructions.
- Fosters positive relationships with fellow employees.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
