Department: Water Treatment Plant

Reporting To: Municipal Utilities Director

Role Summary: Under the general guidance of the Municipal Utilities Director, the Water Treatment Operations Manager is accountable for overseeing all functions of the City’s Water Treatment Plant. This role requires a proactive approach and the ability to make independent decisions.

Supervisory Duties: Yes

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and uphold administrative and operational standards for various activities within the Water Treatment Plant.
  • Provide expert advice to team members on operational challenges and assist in troubleshooting.
  • Oversee and mentor staff, including Assistant Water Treatment Superintendent, Operators, Trainees, Maintenance Workers, and Laboratory Technicians.
  • Develop and maintain all Standard Operating Procedures for the Water Treatment Plant.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to water treatment.
  • Manage documentation related to the daily operations of the Water Treatment Plant.
  • Facilitate training and development opportunities for all personnel within the Water Treatment Plant.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of water treatment principles and practices.
  • Proven leadership and staff development capabilities.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with safety practices and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the geography of Danville.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively across various levels of the organization and with the public.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as required.
  • Ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, biology, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in water treatment operations is mandatory.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.

Certifications:

  • A Class IV Water Treatment license is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have 20/20 vision, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Adequate hearing to respond to alarms and equipment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as bending, twisting, and climbing.
  • Proficient in reading maps and blueprints.
  • Must be able to prepare detailed reports.
