As a Records Technician with the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office, you will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information. This position requires a high degree of integrity, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with complex and confidential data.
Key Responsibilities- Process requests for information from the public and other law enforcement agencies in compliance with Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) and the Criminal Justice Records Act.
- Assist with National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) reporting and disseminate case information and evidentiary items to the District Attorney's office, county/district courts, DMV, and other law enforcement entities.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate sealing of criminal justice records per Court order.
- Assist in the retention schedule process of criminal justice records, including scanning and destruction of said records.
- May be required to obtain notary certification to serve as an ACSO notary.
- Receive requests from Deputies for special or specific information and relay the same back to the Deputies/Detectives.
- Makes recommendations for establishing schedules and methods for providing records management services.
- Perform a wide variety of technical and clerical law enforcement support duties related to collecting, maintaining, processing confidential law enforcement data and information.
- Maintain Records Unit supplies and attend professional group meetings to stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of records management.
- Assist citizens at the front desk and through telephone contact, process payments and collect fees for various tasks, and manage the Archuleta County Sheriff's Department arrest records, booking, and criminal history records.
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures of assigned work areas, make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures, and implement approved policies and procedures for assigned areas.
- Process criminal record sealing and purging of documents pursuant to court orders and prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
- Minimum twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Possess the highest degree of integrity and strong interpersonal skills.
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by two years of college-level coursework in law enforcement, preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
- Prior experience in working with and/or managing records in a law enforcement agency preferred.
- Four years of police records management experience preferred.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License.
