POSITION OVERVIEW

As an Industrial Generator Service Technician, you will be responsible for effectively diagnosing and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical issues while expertly repairing various models of Caterpillar engines and machinery. The level of expertise required will dictate your placement within the organization, with specific knowledge tailored to the distinct departments of Wyoming Machinery.

Your job placement will be determined by your skills, knowledge, and experience, following these classifications:

· Apprentice I: Basic familiarity with mechanical tools and service protocols. Experience: 1 year in heavy equipment maintenance or a strong mechanical inclination.

· Apprentice II: Basic component recognition, understanding of various Caterpillar mechanical systems, and capability to execute several mechanical tasks. Experience: Trade School certification and/or 2 years in heavy equipment service.

· Field Technician: Proficient in the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of Caterpillar mechanical systems, able to work independently with minimal guidance. Experience: At least four years in heavy equipment service.

· Master Technician: Comprehensive understanding and advanced skills in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing Caterpillar mechanical systems. Capable of mentoring new staff and training apprentices. Experience: A minimum of ten years in heavy equipment service.

The expectations for knowledge and performance will be elaborated in the Wyoming Machinery Employee Development Program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • Conduct visual inspections and troubleshoot customer equipment, utilizing diagnostic tools to accurately identify issues.
  • Regularly remove, repair, or replace components in engines, hydraulic systems, brake systems, electrical systems, and related powertrain systems.
  • Ensure all repairs meet or exceed the standards set by the Field Service Supervisor and customer expectations.
  • Review data from troubleshooting and inspection processes to prepare detailed, accurate, and cost-effective job estimates.
  • Prepare precise parts orders based on troubleshooting and inspection data.
  • Safely operate all Caterpillar products.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Exhibit strong discipline in completing and submitting all job-related paperwork within 24 hours of task completion.
  • Examples include service reports, labor hour documentation, DOT logs, and expense reports.
  • Demonstrate prompt, thorough, and safe execution of all assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform basic service tasks such as checking fluid levels and changing filters.
  • Identify various fasteners and their applications.
  • Understand the significance of shop and personal safety equipment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using basic hand tools.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Recognize and identify fundamental mechanical components.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of diverse construction/mining equipment, power systems, and heavy industrial/diesel engines, as well as hydraulic systems.
  • Direct experience with Caterpillar equipment is highly regarded.
  • Possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

· Prolonged periods of walking, sitting, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, and squatting, including working at heights.

· Frequent use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manipulation of tools/objects, and writing/typing.

· Walking on uneven terrain with potential slip, trip, and fall hazards.

· Regular exposure to extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions.

· Frequent contact with substances such as water, mud, dirt, grease, dust, industrial chemicals, and hydraulic fluids.

· Regular exposure to loud environments.

· Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 50 lbs.

· Use of all necessary personal protective equipment is mandatory.

· Operation of a company vehicle requires a valid driver's license, with driving records reviewed annually to meet company insurance standards.

· Overtime, varying schedules, extensive travel, and overnight stays may be necessary.
