Department of Veteran Affairs is seeking a Chief for Eye Care Services. This leadership position arises due to the retirement of the current Section Chief, presenting a unique opportunity within the Department of Veteran Affairs. The Eye Section is designed to provide a comprehensive service, featuring a team of ophthalmologists, optometrists, low vision specialists, nurse case managers, nursing personnel, and administrative support.

This managerial role offers a significant chance to foster growth and exhibit leadership. Key responsibilities include managing multiple Eye Clinic locations across Northern California, supervising two Site Chiefs in key areas, and spearheading program development and staffing for the newly established Eye Clinic. You will also play a crucial role in the creation of a new freestanding Eye Clinic.

Administrative responsibilities include overseeing clinic operations, formulating policies, planning long-term Eye Care delivery, and collaborating with various medical divisions within the organization. This position also entails providing care for veterans in outpatient settings and surgical environments, along with the potential to oversee ophthalmology residents.

Essential qualifications include:

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Alien status
  • Board Eligible/Certified in Ophthalmology
  • Possession of a full, unrestricted medical license in any State
  • Verification of vaccination for seasonal influenza and COVID-19

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position with primary day shifts, typically Monday to Friday, with on-call responsibilities shared among staff. Initial calls are managed by residents, with attending physicians available for support.

Travel: Minimal travel is expected for this role.

Education Debt Reduction Program: Eligible for up to $200,000 over five years, with a maximum of $40,000 per year.
