This pivotal moment in our industry presents substantial opportunities for National Grid, marking the beginning of a transformative era that will influence our success for decades.

In light of these developments, our supply chains are encountering unprecedented challenges and are integral to our strategic plans, placing National Grid Procurement at the heart of our Net Zero objectives. Our strategy focuses on three key areas:
  • Collaboration: We are strengthening our relationships with our supply chain, aligning closely with each NG Group Business Unit (BU).
  • Scale: We are harnessing the vast scale of our organization to unlock greater potential, achieving remarkable outcomes through collective strength.
  • Operational Innovation: We are transforming our operational methods, adopting new technologies and approaches to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
Key Responsibilities

You will play a vital role in National Grid's supplier segmentation strategy, focusing on the development, evolution, and maintenance of processes and standards for strategic supplier engagement, vendor management, and contract oversight.
  • Lead the delivery and ongoing refinement of a robust supplier segmentation strategy, adapting it to evolving supplier dynamics.
  • Establish standards and processes for supplier engagement across all levels of National Grid's supply chain, collaborating with Strategic Supplier Engagement (SSE), Supply Chain Risk and Performance, and Market Supplier Development teams.
  • Contribute to the formulation of comprehensive supplier strategies for key suppliers, integrating insights from various teams (e.g., Sustainability, Supply Chain Risk) and aligning with business objectives.
  • Enhance training programs related to the defined supplier standards process across the broader Procurement function.
  • Work with the procurement digital team to identify, develop, and implement technologies that drive continuous improvement in supplier governance.
  • Support the 'Voice of the Supplier' initiatives, generating insights that inform action plans aimed at enhancing National Grid's market perception as a 'Client of Choice.'
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an effective supplier governance framework and reporting system, ensuring appropriate controls and KPIs are applied to supplier performance, risks, costs, and relationships by category team.
Qualifications
  • Exceptional skills in stakeholder and supplier management, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels, both internally and externally.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial models and techniques necessary for achieving best-in-class supplier engagement.
  • Proven negotiation abilities and a comprehensive understanding of contract law, with experience in managing procurement activities and delivering value.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing KPIs and contract data, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to support category teams in mitigating commercial risks.
  • Good understanding of National Grid's broader business objectives and their implications for category management.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and make informed decisions based on incomplete information.
