Key Responsibilities
The Chief Legal Officer will oversee all legal matters and serve as the in-house legal advisor for the firm. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and experience in contract language, drafting, and management. This role necessitates effective communication skills, particularly in legal and architectural terminology.

  • Review and negotiate contracts in accordance with internal policies.
  • Engage with clients, consultants, and legal representatives throughout the negotiation process.
  • Provide strategic recommendations and amend agreements as necessary.
  • Manage contract documentation and keep administration informed.
  • Ensure compliance and monitor contract statuses.
  • Examine agreements for clarity and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with legal teams and other departments to oversee projects.
  • Analyze contracts and suggest modifications or new templates.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients during negotiations.
  • Resolve disputes that may arise during negotiations.
  • Oversee insurance-related duties for the firm.
  • Manage state registrations and business licenses.
  • Experience with AEC contracts on both large commercial and smaller residential projects is essential.
  • Prior experience handling a high volume of contracts is required.

Qualifications
A Juris Doctor degree is mandatory, along with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, including serving as legal counsel for an organization with over 300 employees. Familiarity with AIA documents and contracts is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and email communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • The ability to independently manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • A high level of discretion in handling confidential information.
