Job Summary:

The Behavioral Health Consultant provides brief, evidence-based assessments and interventions to support functional restoration and symptom management. This role is part of an integrated care team, working closely with medical and allied health providers to develop clear treatment plans for patient management.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Apply biopsychosocial models of human behavior and development to provide effective interventions in a time-limited setting.
  • Target treatment for mental health concerns, substance abuse, adverse health behaviors, and stress-related physical symptoms.
  • Provide patient and family education to encourage compliance with medical and behavioral treatment plans.
  • Teach classes and groups related to integrated behavioral health, such as chronic pain management and stress management.
  • Effectively communicate with medical providers using electronic health records and verbal communication.
  • Provide consultation and training to primary care team members on mental health, chemical dependency, and behavioral medicine.
  • Discuss common psychotropic medications with patients, including indications, effects, and side effects.
  • Assess for and manage suicidal and homicidal risk, as well as concerns for child or elder abuse and neglect.
  • Coordinate with crisis teams, contract police, and Child Protective Services as needed.
  • Perform clinical, compliance, and administrative duties related to Medicare billing.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years of post-master's practice experience in applied psychotherapy or integrated behavioral health in a primary care setting.
  • Masters degree in social work or related behavioral health field.
  • Primary care behavioral health/collaborative care training as part of Masters degree training program or recent integrated care certificate program completion.
Additional Requirements:
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code required at time of hire.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced Primary Care setting.
  • Ability to function effectively in an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine patient populations in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Knowledge of the complex systems of psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment at the community and county levels.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bi-or multi-lingual.
