Job Summary: As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at Corewell Health, you will play a vital role in aiding physicians in diagnosing and treating patients by performing a variety of routine and specialized tests and procedures. Your areas of work will include Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Immunohematology, and other specialty departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently perform routine and complex chemical, hematologic, and microbiologic procedures using laboratory instruments or manual techniques.
- Evaluate instrument performance and quality control results, and correlate results to identify causes of unexpected test results.
- Standardize, calibrate, perform maintenance, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Assist in developing new test procedures and methodologies to improve laboratory efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in clinical laboratory science instruction and continuing education programs to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and technologies.
- Engage in quality assurance and regulatory agency activities to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Provide guidance and support to healthcare workers regarding lab results and procedures, and communicate effectively to ensure accurate and timely results.
- Contribute to special projects and initiatives as assigned to drive business growth and improvement.
Requirements:
Education/Training: A baccalaureate degree with specific coursework in biology and chemistry, and completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program, clinical internship, and ASCP BOC approval.
Work Experience: Completion of a NAACLS accredited clinical internship or equivalent experience/training.
Certification/Licensure/Registration: U.S. certification or eligibility from approved agencies such as ASCP or AMT.
Working Conditions:
- Requires considerable walking and standing, and occasional light lifting.
- Works in a clinical laboratory with hazardous materials.
