Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Corewell Health. As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality laboratory services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Laboratory Tests: Conduct a variety of routine and specialized tests and procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Operate Laboratory Equipment: Standardize, calibrate, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Develop and Implement New Procedures: Assist in the development and implementation of new test procedures and methodologies.
  • Provide Training and Education: Participate in the instruction of clinical laboratory science to students, residents, and new employees.
  • Ensure Quality and Compliance: Participate in quality assurance and regulatory agency activities, including performance of proficiency testing and development of quality assurance monitors.
Requirements
  • Education: Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology and 16 semester hours in chemistry.
  • Certification: Department policy requires U.S. certification, U.S. certification eligibility, or certification assessment by one of the following agencies: ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist, ASCP Medical Technologist, ASCP International Medical Laboratory Scientist, or AMT Medical Technologist.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Effort: Requires considerable walking and standing, with occasional light lifting to store supplies.
  • Work Environment: Works in a clinical laboratory and is exposed to hazardous reagents and infectious materials.
