Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead to join our team at Corewell Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and specialized tests and procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently perform routine and complex chemical, hematologic, microscopic, morphologic immunologic, and/or microbiologic procedures.
  • Apply advanced knowledge and clinical judgment to release quality patient test results, evaluate instrument performance, and correlate results with other laboratory data.
  • Standardize, calibrate, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Assist in the development and design of new test procedures and methodologies.
  • Participate in the instruction of clinical laboratory science to students, residents, and new employees.
  • Provide direction and guidance to medical laboratory technicians and other laboratory personnel.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology and 16 semester hours in chemistry.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program by NAACLS or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty.
  • Certification, licensure, or registration by a recognized certifying agency, such as ASCP or AMT.

Working Conditions

  • Works in a clinical laboratory and may be exposed to hazardous reagents and infectious materials.
  • May be required to lift light objects and stand for long periods.
