Full-time position, requiring 36 hours of work per week with rotating shifts.

Job Responsibilities

The MRI Imaging Specialist is responsible for delivering healthcare services by utilizing pulsed radio-frequency waves and magnetic energy to aid in diagnosis or treatment. This includes conducting magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures, performing computer processing, and executing related techniques to generate images for interpretation by licensed practitioners. The specialist ensures optimal patient care and identifies conditions necessary for the successful completion of imaging procedures. This role also serves as a resource for other MRI staff in managing complex situations.

Key Duties

  • Confirm patients' clinical histories, ensuring all information is accurately documented and accessible to licensed practitioners.
  • Conduct proper patient identification and order verification. Prepare patients for procedures by providing clear instructions to achieve desired outcomes, enhance cooperation, and reduce anxiety.
  • Select and operate MRI systems, surface coils, and associated equipment to obtain optimal results. Position patients and equipment effectively to best showcase the anatomical area of interest while considering patient comfort.
  • Administer contrast media as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
  • Assess images and data for technical quality, adjust display parameters, and upload images to the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) as the standard electronic format for permanent patient records, ensuring proper patient identification.
  • Maintain a tidy work environment and report any equipment malfunctions to the relevant department personnel.
  • Handle moderately complex assignments, adhering to established protocols while exercising judgment within defined parameters. Work with minimal supervision and may serve as a technical specialist or mentor to less experienced staff.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant MRI experience is required.
  • Certification as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (MRI) from ARRT or ARMRIT is required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC is required within 90 days of hire.
