We are currently in search of a full-time Healthcare Support Specialist to engage in various patient care tasks, providing both clinical and administrative support within a school-based health center. This role is essential in facilitating primary healthcare delivery and managing patient care effectively. The Healthcare Support Specialist will collaborate with a medical team adhering to NCQA - Patient Centered Medical Home standards and may require travel for training and coverage at different sites.
This position operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities of the Healthcare Support Specialist:
- Guide patients through the clinic and escort them to examination rooms.
- Measure vital signs and prepare patients for evaluations.
- Set up examination rooms and instruments for assessments, maintaining adequate inventory of supplies.
- Ensure sterilization of instruments as assigned.
- Screen incoming calls for referrals.
- Verify that relevant information and the latest test results are included in patient records.
- Assist healthcare providers with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as instructed.
- Remain present in the examination room with the provider during patient evaluations as needed.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and comply with OSHA and CLIA regulations due to potential exposure to bodily fluids.
- Conduct daily equipment checks and maintain logs in line with regulations.
- Prepare medications as required.
- Maintain CPR certification and meet licensure standards.
- Ensure patient confidentiality is upheld.
- Complete weekly assigned tasks.
- Accurately triage walk-in patients and phone inquiries.
- Restock medical supplies in examination rooms before shifts.
- Check expiration dates on all medical and pharmacy products.
- Follow scheduling directives.
- Participate in mandatory meetings and training sessions, and engage in committees as requested.
- Perform additional duties as per skill level and responsibilities.
- Utilize telehealth methods to assist providers.
- Conduct health screenings (PHQ9, Edinburgh Scale, and GAD 7) to direct patients to necessary medical care.
- Complete Daily Operations Reports as directed by the Practice Manager.
- Log and report temperature data for vaccine and medication storage compliance.
- May oversee coordination of the Vaccines For Children (VFC) program.
- Manage cash box, perform audits, and handle bank deposits.
Ideal Candidates for the Healthcare Support Specialist Role Will Have:
- Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program; certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred.
- Preferred experience of six months to one year in a clinical environment.
- Previous experience working with pediatric patients is a plus.
- A valid driver's license, a driving record that meets Meridian's policy, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance are required.
