We are currently looking for a full-time Healthcare Support Specialist to engage in various patient care tasks, delivering both clinical and administrative support within a school-based health facility. This role will contribute to the provision of primary healthcare and patient management. The Healthcare Support Specialist will be an integral part of a medical care team, adhering to NCQA - Patient Centered Medical Home standards, and may require travel for training and coverage at alternate sites.
This position operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities of the Healthcare Support Specialist:
- Facilitate patient flow through the clinic and escort patients to examination rooms.
- Measure vital signs and prepare patients for assessments.
- Organize examination rooms and instruments for evaluations and tests, while maintaining adequate inventory of supplies in all clinical areas.
- Perform sterilization of instruments as assigned.
- Screen incoming calls for referrals.
- Ensure that relevant information and the latest test results are included in patient records.
- Assist healthcare providers with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed.
- Remain present in the examination room with the provider during patient evaluations as requested or assigned.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and CLIA standards due to potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
- Conduct daily equipment checks and maintain records/logs in accordance with regulations and protocols.
- Prepare medications as required.
- Maintain CPR certification and licensure requirements.
- Uphold patient confidentiality.
- Complete weekly task assignments.
- Accurately triage walk-in patients and phone inquiries.
- Restock supplies in medical rooms prior to all shifts.
- Verify expiration dates on all pharmaceutical and stored products.
- Follow scheduling assignments.
- Participate in required meetings, in-services, and committees as requested.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as per credentialed skill level or incidental to the role.
- Utilize telehealth methods to assist providers.
- Conduct health screenings (PHQ9, Edinburgh Scale, and GAD 7) as necessary to guide patients to appropriate medical care.
- Complete Daily Operations Reports as requested by the Practice Manager.
- Log and transmit temperature data as required for vaccine and medication storage.
- May oversee coordination of the Vaccines For Children (VFC) program.
- Manage cash box, audits, and bank deposits.
We are looking for Healthcare Support Specialist candidates with the following qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program; Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred.
- Preferably six months to one year of experience in a clinical setting.
- Previous experience in pediatrics is preferred.
- A valid driver's license, a driving record that meets Meridian's driving policy, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance are required.
