Role Summary

The High School History Instructor plays a crucial role in furthering our mission by designing and implementing engaging learning experiences that promote the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development of students. This position is integral in helping students acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in society.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a comprehensive curriculum focused on the analysis of World History, U.S. History, American Government, and Economics, preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) and higher education coursework.
  • Encourage student-led discussions on historical topics, prompting critical thinking through open-ended questions and peer debates.
  • Guide students in understanding authors' perspectives and the significance of sourcing, while developing skills in argumentation, corroboration, inquiry, and historiography through the analysis of primary and secondary sources.
  • Create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment where students feel empowered to express their evidence-based opinions and perspectives.
  • Collaborate with the History department to establish academic and engagement objectives for students.
  • Engage in weekly meetings with administration to analyze student work and assessment trends.
  • Implement differentiated instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Build strong relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and understood.
  • Work closely with families to provide necessary resources that support student learning.
  • Participate in professional development and mentorship opportunities to enhance teaching practices.
  • Contribute to school-wide meetings aimed at fostering community, modeling core values, and promoting student achievement.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess at least a Bachelor's degree and appropriate certification. All candidates are expected to hold a Certificate of Eligibility, with guidance available for obtaining full certification in the state. Applicants should demonstrate cultural awareness, effective communication skills with diverse populations, mastery of subject content, teamwork capabilities, high expectations for student performance, and a foundational understanding of child development.
