Job Summary

Michigan Medicine is seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our pediatric acute care team. As a Pharmacy Technician in this role, you will play a vital part in providing patient care activities and supporting our diverse team of healthcare professionals.

Our pediatric pharmacy team is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care, and we are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for preparing and packaging non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals, preparing sterile products, and filling automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals
  • Prepare sterile products, injections, and IV chemotherapy
  • Fill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units
  • Correctly distribute and account for controlled substances usage
  • Deliver medications to nursing units, including surgical rooms
  • Stock medications shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventory, and properly dispose of expired medications
  • Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols
  • Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
  • Assist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilization
  • Build various medication kits, providing support to multiple professions
  • Assist with training of staff
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medications

Requirements:

  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Proficient communication, computer, and basic mathematical skills
  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program
  • Basic algebra, including performing pharmacy calculations

Work Schedule:

Full and part-time positions are available on days, afternoons, or midnights. Technicians are expected to work every second weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and provide holiday coverage. Technicians' main work area will be in Children and Women's Hospital Main or Operating Room Pharmacy.

Modes of Work:

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
