POSITION SUMMARY

This role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities within the domains of infrastructure maintenance, traffic management, and safety operations, as well as utilities and permits. The successful candidate will be tasked with adhering to strict timelines and addressing challenges to facilitate the effective execution and functioning of services and products associated with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). Continuous engagement with clients is a fundamental aspect of this role.

SALARY RANGE
The salary indicated reflects a spectrum from the entry-level (9) to the experienced (P11) level. Candidates will be evaluated based on their educational background and professional experience to determine their appropriate classification.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Education

A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering is required.

Note: Candidates who are on track to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering by the end of the specified timeframe may also be considered.

Experience

Transportation Engineer 9
No specific experience is mandated.

Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience in transportation systems and programs, equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.

Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience in transportation systems and programs, equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year at the Transportation Engineer 10 level.
ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Transportation Engineer 9 - 12
Possession of a registered professional engineer license as mandated by the State of Michigan may substitute for six months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution can only be utilized once for any employee for qualification or early reclassification.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
To qualify for this position, candidates must:
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • If applicable, include a copy of official college transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluations with the application. Refer to the State of Michigan's definition of an Official College Transcript. Applicants with foreign degrees must have their academic credentials evaluated or converted to U.S. educational equivalents. Civil Service accepts evaluations from organizations recognized by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc.
