Job Summary

Monrovia Unified School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide an educational program for students who require an intensive and highly structured program and are placed in a Special Day Class (SDC) or Resource Specialist Program (RSP) program by the Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement specialized academic instruction to meet the unique needs of students with mild/moderate disabilities.
  2. Provide individualized and small group instruction with an emphasis on remedial language arts and math curriculum.
  3. Collaborate with parents and professional staff members to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  4. Assess and evaluate student progress, making data-driven decisions to inform instruction.
  5. Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes social skills, self-image, and acceptable behavior.
  6. Mainstream qualified students into regular classes for partial day instruction to prepare them for returning to the regular classroom on a full-time basis.
  7. Apply learning theory to student behavior management and lesson planning for individual and group situations.
  8. Participate as a member of the IEP team for potential placement and review of students placed in the specialized academic instruction class.
  9. Supervise and direct activities of instructional aides.
Requirements
  • Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential: Mild/Moderate Disabilities
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders Added Authorization (AAAS)
  • EL Certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students with mild/moderate disabilities
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and universal design for learning
  • Ability to work collaboratively with parents and professional staff members
