College Station, Texas, United States Penn State University Full time
Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated and talented individuals to join our team as part-time research interns in the Computer Science and Engineering department at Penn State University.

Job Responsibilities
  • Implement a successful gradient-free test-time evasion attack against a classifier trained for the MNIST domain.
  • Develop and implement algorithms to perform gradient-free TTE attacks (targeted attacks) in Matlab.
  • Attack each test sample and misclassify it to a (randomly chosen) target class.
  • Report the attack success rate and the average number of classifier queries needed to achieve a successful attack.
  • Display representative attacked image examples to show whether the attack is perceptible or imperceptible.
  • Suggest a simple algorithm for detecting attacks and report its performance (true detection rate at a fixed false positive rate, or ROC AUC curve, by varying the true detection rate versus false positive rate, by changing the detection threshold).
Requirements
  • Strong background in computer science and engineering.
  • Experience with Matlab programming.
  • Good understanding of machine learning and deep learning concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
What We Offer
  • Opportunity to work with a team of experienced researchers in the Computer Science and Engineering department.
  • Chance to develop and implement new algorithms and techniques in the field of machine learning and deep learning.
  • Stipend or hourly wage for part-time work.
How to Apply
