Job Summary

As a Traffic Project Engineer, you will be responsible for engineering design, traffic operations, and analysis using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision.

You will act as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers and plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Utilize various design software/tools (Synchro, HCS, and/or VISSIM) for traffic analysis for a variety of conditions to perform traffic modeling and analysis, including signal systems.
  2. Prepare technical reports which include traffic impact, transportation planning, and traffic safety.
  3. Perform design computations, design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.
  4. Develop construction cost estimates, assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction, and develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
  5. Assist in the proposals preparation as required, attend meetings with clients, and assist with development of project schedule.
  6. Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
Requirements

Proficient in discipline-specific traffic modeling and analysis software, proficient in Microsoft Office, and written and communication skills are required.

A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program, 4+ years' experience in specialized discipline, and Professional Engineer License are also required.

Preferred experience includes Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE), experience working with local clients at the county and state level, and experience with PANYNJ and NJDOT.

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasions where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
