About the Position:

The Fresh Market is currently seeking a Produce Category Buyer at our Store Support Center. The Produce Category Buyer will oversee the promotion of their category portfolio to enhance consumer appeal and boost sales and profitability while fostering sustainable growth.

You will assist the department in the creation, development, execution, and financial performance of an assigned category.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop a SKU-level demand plan by analyzing sales trends, promotional activities, vendor agreements, and presentation minimums.
- Collaborate with distributors to enhance service levels.
- Negotiate product costs and vendor funds for goods for sale.
- Negotiate costs on goods not for resale (packaging and supplies).
- Manage product procurement and allocation.
- Establish in-store inventory level targets by category.
- Ensure cost accuracy in the database.
- Collaborate with Retail Category Management/Own Brands on forecasts for new items, product transitions, and phasing out discontinued products.
- Monitor the sales performance of new products and develop historical data to guide future launches.
- Identify excess, inadequate, and/or obsolete inventory positions, providing recommendations to the retail category team.
- Reduce warehouse liability/salvage.

Qualifications:
At a minimum, you will need:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 4-7+ years of Category Management or related experience.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the grocery business and its systems/processes.
- Experience in understanding consumer demand in a fast-paced retail/grocery environment.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with peers and cross-functional teams.
- Strong merchandising, product, and marketing skills.
- Excellent analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness to travel for trade shows and store visits.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience utilizing Nielsen and/or IRI.
- Experience with MicroStrategy.
