This position is located in the Cultural Resources and Museum Management Division, part of the Charlestonsouthern team.

About the Job

We are seeking a skilled Museum Specialist Leader to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing, implementing, and undertaking conservation programs for artifacts and structures.

The selected candidate will also supervise Museum Technicians conducting preventive conservation maintenance of museum collection artifacts in storage and on display.

This role requires maintaining oversight of the condition of museum collection artifacts on exhibit and/or in storage, including periodic condition assessments, conservation activities, and requirements for storage or display.

The incumbent will ensure proper documentation of conservation activities is properly recorded.

The job involves supporting the inclusion of artifacts in exhibit development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs, implements, and undertakes conservation programs for artifacts and structures.
  • Supervises Museum Technician(s) conducting preventive conservation maintenance of museum collection artifacts in storage and on display.
  • Maintains oversight of the condition of museum collection artifacts on exhibit and/or in storage.
  • Ensures proper documentation of conservation activities is properly recorded.
  • Supports the inclusion of artifacts in exhibit development.
Requirements

In order to be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong background in museum management and conservation.
  • Experience in supervising teams and managing projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions

This role is based in San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.

Compensation

The estimated annual salary for this role is $93,000-$112,000, depending on experience.
