South San Francisco, California, United States Genentech Full time
The Role

At Genentech, we are driven by the vision of a healthier future, continuously innovating to ensure access to essential healthcare for all.

Our commitment is to create a world where individuals can spend more quality time with their loved ones. This is the essence of our mission at Roche.

The Department of Neuroscience at Genentech is seeking applications for a Lead Scientist in the Lab/Group Head track, a position comparable to an assistant professor in academia.

About Us

For over 40 years, Genentech has been a pioneer in the biotechnology sector, leveraging human genetic information to develop groundbreaking therapies for serious and life-threatening conditions.

With a rich history of innovation and a culture centered around scientific excellence, we have successfully discovered transformative treatments for cancer, inflammatory diseases, ocular disorders, and other critical health issues.

The Neuroscience Department is dedicated to conducting world-class research aimed at understanding disease mechanisms and developing novel therapeutics for patients suffering from significant neurological disorders.

Currently, our focus includes neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and Glaucoma.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an exceptional, highly motivated, and innovative scientist to spearhead research initiatives aimed at exploring the fundamental mechanisms of nervous system disorders.

You will lead a research team dedicated to identifying novel drug targets and discovering new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

Your expertise will enable you to pinpoint new therapeutic strategies to prevent neuronal cell death by intervening in and inhibiting the pathogenic processes that lead to cellular dysfunction and death.

Collaboration will be key, as you will work alongside other research laboratories in Neuroscience, Immunology, and Ophthalmology, as well as with experts in human genetics, genomics, translational medicine, computational sciences, and drug discovery, including both gene therapy and small- and large-molecule drug development.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD and have over three years of postdoctoral or industry experience in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field relevant to our mission.

You should have a proven track record of high-quality research, evidenced by publications in prestigious journals and presentations at external conferences.

Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for translating fundamental research insights into impactful therapeutic solutions are essential.

Expertise in molecular and cellular biology, utilizing both in vitro and in vivo model systems, along with a deep understanding of the cellular pathways involved in neurodegeneration, is required.

Preferred Qualifications

A profound understanding of the basic cellular and molecular pathways, particularly those related to neuroprotective mechanisms, is highly desirable.

Relocation assistance is available for this position.

The expected salary range for this role, based on the primary location in California, is $143,100 - $265,700. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance.

Benefits

Genentech is an equal opportunity employer, embracing the diverse world around us. We prohibit unlawful discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin or ancestry, age, disability, marital status, and veteran status.
