Aquatic Toxicologist

As an Aquatic Toxicologist, you will be integral to ongoing research initiatives that emphasize fish toxicity assessments in both laboratory and field environments, collaborating closely with our federal research partners. Your main focus will be on evaluating algal toxins, fire-retardant substances, and various environmental pollutants. You will provide critical research support in areas such as experimental design, data collection, laboratory sample analysis, data management, statistical evaluation, and manuscript development, with opportunities for lead or co-authorship.

In collaboration with fellow scientists, you will take the lead or co-lead in executing experiments, collecting samples, and processing data. Your contributions will enhance our understanding of the impacts of algal toxins and pollutants on aquatic species.

Compensation & Benefits:

The estimated starting salary range for the Aquatic Toxicologist position is $60,000 - $87,000, with pay adjusted based on experience.

Full-time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and additional benefits as applicable. Note that benefits are subject to change without prior notice.

Key Responsibilities of the Aquatic Toxicologist Include:

  • Assist in fish toxicity evaluations in laboratory and field studies, concentrating on algal toxins, fire-retardant chemicals, and other environmental pollutants.
  • Support research efforts in experimental design, data collection, laboratory sample processing, data management, and statistical analysis of collected data.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, with opportunities for lead or co-authorship on projects assessing the effects of algal toxins and other pollutants on aquatic species.
  • Collaborate with other scientists to lead or co-lead experimental execution, sample collection, curation, and processing.
  • Act as a scientific resource for colleagues and others engaged in related research domains.
  • Address information requirements of federal and state agencies.
  • Provide concise written progress updates on a monthly basis.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Preferred: PhD in biology, toxicology, ecology, zoology, biochemistry, animal physiology, molecular biology, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree in biology, toxicology, ecology, zoology, biochemistry, animal physiology, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Essential experience in aquatic toxicology, evidenced by at least two first-authored publications and one co-authored publication in the field.
  • Active USAccess Clearance.
  • Preferred experience with zebrafish, microscopy, and/or behavioral analysis.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen or permanent resident with the ability to relocate or commute as necessary.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
