Position Overview:

As an Aquatic Toxicology Specialist, you will be integral to ongoing research initiatives that assess fish toxicity through both laboratory and field studies, collaborating closely with our federal research partners. Your primary focus will encompass algal toxins, fire-retardant chemicals, and various environmental pollutants. You will provide crucial research support in areas such as experimental design, data collection, laboratory sample processing, data management, statistical analysis, and manuscript development, with opportunities for lead or co-authorship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting fish toxicity assessments in laboratory and field environments, concentrating on algal toxins, fire-retardant substances, and other environmental pollutants.
  • Support research efforts through experimental design, data collection, laboratory sample processing, data management, and statistical analysis of resultant datasets.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation with opportunities for lead or co-authorship on projects that evaluate the impacts of algal toxins and other pollutants on aquatic animal health.
  • Collaborate with fellow scientists within the organization to lead or co-lead experimental implementation, sample collection, curation, and processing.
  • Act as a scientific resource for colleagues and stakeholders engaged in related research domains.
  • Address the informational needs of federal and state agencies.
  • Provide concise written progress updates on a monthly basis.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, toxicology, ecology, zoology, biochemistry, animal physiology, molecular biology, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in aquatic toxicology, evidenced by at least two first-authored publications and one co-authored publication in the field.
  • Possession of an active USAccess Clearance.
  • Preferred experience with zebrafish, microscopy techniques, and/or behavioral analysis.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with the ability to relocate or commute as necessary.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment qualifications set by Cherokee Federal.
