The Senior Transmission Planning Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering technical knowledge and analytical support for the transmission planning initiatives of Georgia Transmission. This position involves conducting comprehensive transmission planning studies and assessing electrical alternatives to enhance the reliability of the transmission system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct power system modeling and analysis in designated areas utilizing industry-standard software.
- Develop and coordinate transmission solutions that enhance system reliability and resilience.
- Create technical reports, project scopes, justifications, and other procedural documentation.
- Engage in industry committees and collaborative transmission planning efforts with other electric entities as required.
In this role, individuals will gain extensive exposure to electric power system analysis, transmission system modeling, generation impacts, interregional power flows, and industry coordination practices.
Leadership Role:
The Principal Engineer directs specific Transmission Planning activities by providing oversight, reviewing work products, and managing departmental programs that support the Corporation's transmission interests. This includes:
- Evaluating load and generation additions, dynamic and transient system responses, and transmission system capacity through technical analyses.
- Developing and approving transmission plan/project recommendations to facilitate internal and external approvals for capital transmission construction projects.
- Representing the Corporation on various internal and external teams, committees, and industry groups.
- Fostering a culture of compliance, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Providing expert technical guidance in formulating recommendations for executive management.
Accountability:
This role is accountable for:
- The quality and timeliness of all deliverables in assigned areas.
- Ensuring all analyses comply with applicable NERC Reliability Standards and internal processes.
- Training and mentoring junior transmission planning engineers.
- Leading the development of positions that align with corporate strategic objectives and resolving issues effectively.
Qualifications:
Experience in power systems, particularly in Transmission Planning, is essential. Candidates should possess:
- Eight years of experience in Power Systems, with a minimum of four years in Transmission Planning for E-V.
- A minimum of ten years of progressive engineering experience (eight with a PE license) in an electric power system environment, with at least six years in Transmission Planning for E-VI.
Skills:

- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office, power flow analysis software).
- Computer programming skills (creating/debugging code, application development).
- Financial and economic analysis capabilities.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and studies simultaneously.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
