Student Services Coordinator

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Student Services Specialist to join our team at the School of Education. As a key member of the Student Services Center, this individual will play a critical role in managing the practicum placement process, ensuring smooth and successful placements for bachelor's and master's students. The Specialist will work closely with school principals, teachers, and stakeholders to coordinate practicum placements, oversee data management systems, and facilitate communication between school divisions and university faculty.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Practicum Placements: The Specialist will be responsible for securing practicum placements, working with school divisions to secure permission and engage teachers, creating summary reports, supporting teacher candidates towards licensure, and participating in student retention efforts.
2. Communication and Liaison: The Specialist will ensure timely communication and liaison with Human Resource Directors in local school divisions, Principals, Clinical Faculty, and School-based teacher educators program in conjunction with the Center for Teacher Leadership (CTL) staff.
3. Diversity Report: The Specialist will produce a summary report of all placements, student teaching internships, and externships, with identification of diverse placements, as prescribed.
4. Practicum Student Preparation: The Specialist will be responsible for conducting classroom visits, organizing practicum orientations, and supporting student retention efforts. This will include partnerships with the Office for Student Success and professional development programming for current students.
5. Front Desk Coverage: The Specialist will work with other SSC staff members to maintain front desk coverage during hours of operation.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
Previous experience in education administration, student services, or related fields
Experience working with school administrators, teachers, and university faculty
Familiarity with educational programs and practicum requirements
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Knowledge of data management systems and proficiency in data entry
Experience working in a multicultural environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and/or other relevant software applications
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a K-12 teacher
Master's degree in education or a related field
Salary Range: $41,400 - $50,000
