New York, New York, United States DAY CARE COUNCIL OF NEW YORK INC Full time

Position: Director of External Affairs, Child Care Resource Center (CCRC)

The NYC Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) Consortium is a pioneering multilingual collaborative initiative in the child care and family services sector. Our mission is to educate decision-makers, provide training and support to child care providers, and empower families and caregivers to access high-quality child care services. We are seeking a Director of External Affairs to enhance our visibility, foster strategic partnerships, and advocate for our mission in the public sphere.

About the Consortium

The Consortium comprises four independent nonprofit organizations: the Child Development Support Corporation, the Chinese-American Planning Council, the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, and the Day Care Council of New York. Together, we deliver comprehensive services to children, families, and child care providers throughout New York City's five boroughs. Each organization contributes unique expertise, focusing on Latino, Haitian, and Asian communities, engaging with employers and unions, and participating in public policy advocacy while navigating the complexities of the child care and early education systems in New York City.

Over the past 26 years, we have consistently worked to enhance our services. At this pivotal moment, we aim to broaden our influence and reach, and we are looking for a Director of External Affairs to spearhead these efforts. The ideal candidate should be deeply passionate about early childhood education and child care, resourceful, strategic, and adaptable. They must have proven leadership experience, adeptness in managing sensitive information, and proficiency in creating reports, presentations, and dashboards for various audiences.

Role Overview

As the Director of External Affairs, you will be instrumental in leading our external relations and advocacy initiatives. Your responsibilities will include increasing the organization's visibility, influencing public policy, and securing resources to further our mission.

This position, while based at the Day Care Council of New York, will require collaboration with the Consortium's executive directors and their teams. You will serve as the Consortium's spokesperson, enhancing our public profile.

The ideal candidate will excel in consensus-building leadership, effectively managing relationships with senior leaders to achieve unified objectives. Strong influencing and persuasion skills, strategic communication abilities, and the capacity to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics with diplomacy are essential. Your problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, combined with emotional intelligence, resilience, and patience, will foster an environment of mutual respect and collaboration. Building credibility and trust through transparency, integrity, and consistent delivery on commitments will be crucial in aligning diverse perspectives toward shared organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

While the role will evolve, immediate responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a spokesperson for the Consortium, engaging with partners, funders, and government entities.
  • Meeting with legislators to position the Consortium as a leader in early care and education issues.
  • Collaborating with policy teams to educate stakeholders and prepare opinion pieces, briefs, and case statements.
  • Working with marketing and policy teams to develop and distribute public materials, including policy statements, annual reports, and press releases.
  • Utilizing research and evaluations from Consortium programs to secure additional funding for expanded services.
  • Partnering with development staff to identify and pursue funding sources and grant opportunities.

Qualifications

Mandatory qualifications include:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in early childhood education, human services, nonprofit organizations, or the philanthropic sector.
  • Familiarity with New York City and State government in the education and human services sectors.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the early childhood education landscape, including key issues and opportunities.
  • At least five years of project management experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a history of collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and social media for advocacy and public relations.
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for varied audiences.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Bilingual proficiency is preferred.

Employment Details

This is a permanent full-time, exempt position, requiring 35 hours of work per week. The salary for this role is $110,000, and the position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.

While a hybrid work arrangement is currently offered, this role may necessitate up to five days in the office and regular in-person engagements. The position will be based in Midtown Manhattan but will involve time spent at all four organizations and in the field.

Commitment to Diversity

The Day Care Council of New York is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to inclusive hiring and diversity within our workforce. We strongly encourage candidates from all backgrounds and communities to apply.
