Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Elementary School Principal to lead our elementary school in Norfolk Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering the instructional, support, and operational functions of the school, managing staff, programs, and physical resources, and performing related division-wide administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the school's education program and ensure alignment with district goals and objectives.
  • Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
  • Supervise all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel assigned to the school.
  • Assist in the hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's professional staff.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
  • Assist in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
  • Supervise the preparation of all school reports for the central office.
  • Assume responsibility for attendance, conduct, and health of students.
  • Assist in the management and preparation of the school budget.
  • Supervise the maintenance of accurate progress and attendance records for students.
  • Act as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.
  • Conduct staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
Requirements
  • Broad knowledge of principles and practices of public elementary school education, as well as of public school administration and organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current curriculum and instructional practices and trends, school law, personnel, and fiscal management.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate and administer a comprehensive public elementary school.
  • Ability to disaggregate and analyze data to ensure continuous school improvement.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of both professional and support staff.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with community, staff, the general public, and central office.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience

A Master's degree in school administration with experience in elementary or middle school teaching and as an assistant principal, coordinator, or director is required. A Postgraduate Professional License with one or more elementary school subject teaching endorsements and an administration and supervision endorsement is also required.
