Job Title: Detention Officer

Polk County, IA is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our community by maintaining order and discipline within the jail facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors within the jail facility.
  • Enforce jail rules and regulations, and maintain order and discipline within the facility.
  • Conduct searches of inmates and their property, and maintain accurate records of all searches and seizures.
  • Provide support and assistance to inmates, including providing information and resources to help them prepare for release.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with inmates, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
  • Valid driver's license required.
