Clean Harbors is currently looking for an Environmental Field Chemist to join our team. This role involves the management, segregation, packaging, and inspection of chemical waste in compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations, as well as our internal policies and procedures. The position requires both indoor and outdoor work at various sites, including plants, laboratories, and customer locations. This is a client-facing role, with daily interactions at customer sites. It is important to note that the Environmental Field Chemist is not confined to laboratory work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize Health and Safety by adhering to all safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Generate packing lists, labels, manifests, and notifications for land disposal.
  • Conduct inspections of staging, accumulation, and storage areas to ensure compliance with housekeeping standards.
  • Check storage areas and containers for leaks or spills.
  • Verify compliance of containers with labeling regulations.
  • Collect, segregate, and package waste chemicals for disposal efficiently and in compliance with regulations.
  • Perform tasks at customer locations, including those of Fortune 500 companies.
  • Oversee the final preparation and approval of all projects prior to shipment, ensuring adherence to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies.
  • Execute projects in accordance with site-specific Federal, State, and local regulations and health and safety plans.
  • Understand customer-specific disposal restrictions and special packaging requirements.
  • Sample and profile new waste streams or any waste requiring analytical testing.
  • Ensure accurate drum counts and confirm that drum conditions meet shipping standards.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT and other applicable requirements.
  • Follow all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
  • Adhere to all company environmental health and safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • CDL Class B license.
  • Ability to obtain hazmat and tanker endorsements within six months of employment.
  • Physical capability to perform job functions.
  • Successful completion of a background check, drug test, and physical examination as required for the position.
  • Meet facial hair standards as per OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemistry or a related Natural Science field.
  • Previous experience in Environmental Services, such as remediation, abatement, or emergency spill response.

Career Advancement:

This is an entry-level management position with numerous opportunities for advancement within Clean Harbors. Many of our current middle and senior management staff began their careers in this role. We provide accelerated training to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge for success. After mastering this position, you may have the opportunity to transition into a salaried management role within 18 to 36 months.
