Patient Care Technician

Fresenius Medical Care North America is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team. As a key member of our dialysis care team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to individuals undergoing hemodialysis treatment.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Care
- Welcome patients and conduct thorough assessments to identify their needs and concerns.
- Administer heparin and perform vascular access cannulation as delegated by licensed nurses.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and weight, and perform vascular access evaluations.
- Initiate and terminate dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders.
- Respond to intradialytic complications and provide interventions as directed by physicians or licensed nurses.
- Treatment Preparation
- Prepare dialysis machines and equipment for treatment.
- Conduct pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing, including Pressure Holding (PHT).
- Initiate Solution Delivery System (SDS) and ensure proper safety alarms are enabled.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Accurately document patient treatment information, including vital signs and treatment parameters.
- Review treatment sheets for completeness and ensure nursing signatures are documented.
- Infection Control and Safety
- Assist in collecting information for infection control audits.
- Monitor staff and patient adherence to infection control practices.
- Transitional Care Unit
- Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis and coordinate their transitional care.
- Reinforce education and care-related matters to patients and families.
- Assist in assuring patient understanding of treatment options, including demonstration of peritoneal dialysis setup.
- Education and Certifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid PCT national certification or state-specific certification as defined by Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS).
- Experience and Skills
- At least two years of previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
- Successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification required.
